Android lets a VPN do more than iOS does, including per-app split tunneling and an always-on mode the operating system enforces. It is also where the weakest free VPN apps live, so who makes the app, and how that company earns its money, matters more here than anywhere. Weigh whether the app comes from the provider itself, whether it offers split tunneling and a kill switch, whether an APK or an alternative store is offered for phones without Google Play, whether the same app covers Android TV and Fire TV, and what the provider says its free version collects or shows you in exchange.
