VPNs for Mac

Mac VPN apps come either through the App Store or as a direct download, and some providers offer both with different features in each, so the kill switch or split tunneling you read about may not exist in the version you install. Weigh which build the provider offers, whether it names support for Apple Silicon, which protocols the Mac app includes, and whether it sits quietly in the menu bar or needs a full window open. A provider that also publishes manual WireGuard or OpenVPN configuration files gives you a fallback if its own app ever lets you down.
